November Farm Update

Hi Friends,

This last month has been a busy, yet simple month.

This month kicked off fall harvest with some local farmers here in Wisconsin.

I also spent the last two weeks in Iowa at my grandparents’ farm, helping Jay, the renter, with harvest. This is a special yearly event for me because Jay is the seasoned farmer who brought me onto his harvest team and invested in me when farming was just a dream.

When harvest finishes up later this month, I will continue the work on the fence for the sheep yard and hopefully get all the posts in before the ground freezes.

October farm Update:

Hi friends,

October is here!

I always love this season for two reasons. The beautiful fall colors begin to appear, and the fall field work begins!

This month we wrapped up the production year with the processing of our last batch of chickens.

We got the chicken tractor cleaned up and put the water hoses and other supplies into the shed for the winter.

The sheep shed is now completely finished, other than the dirt grading, which we will continue to pick away at until the ground freezes this winter.

We also got supplies for fencing in the sheep yard, and we cut up some locust trees that we will be using as fence posts.

September Farm update:

Hi friends,

This month was another fun and busy month!

We processed our second batch of chickens.

And we got the third batch moved out to pasture, and they are looking really good.

This was also an exciting month related to our future sheep endeavors.

The new shed should be finished by the end of the week!

The area where the new fence is going to be is all cleared out and ready to go.

July Farm Update:

HI everyone!

Happy Independence Day!

June was a great month. Our chickens from the first batch are still growing and looking really good.

And the second batch of chicks arrived June 15th.

I’m also very excited to say that this month we also started prepping an area to build a shed which will provide shelter to sheep that we will be getting early next year!

June Farm Update:

Hi friends,

May was an exciting month… We got our first batch of baby chicks:

After spending three weeks in the brooder, they moved into their final home out in the field, where they will stay until July.

Also starting the second week of May, I worked for some local farmers, helping with spring planting.

May Farm Update:

Well, we made it. Spring is here!
April was a month of wet mud and varying temperatures. It was also a month of all the final preparations that needed to be done to get ready for baby chicks arriving in early May!

We got the chicken tractor, designed by John Suscovich with a few modifications, all set up and ready for summer work.

We also cleared the pasture of all the sticks and brush that would make moving the chickens during the summer months more difficult.
